During the war, Edith Lyons worked in several places, following her husband around to different army bases. She started out working as a typist at Fort Patrick Henry and later worked at Gillespie Airways where she reported on the process of pilots in training. After Gillespie she went to Gulf Port, Mississippi and worked for a government facility. She finally got tired of all that moving around and moved back home to Charleston, West Virginia where she worked for General Machinery, the parent company of the Government Ordinance Place that manufactured guns for the war effort. She worked as the secretary to the Chief Accountant and Vice President.
