This interview was made possible by the generous support of Sawaka and Michael Katz.Arkie Huffman started working as a telephone operator for forty cents an hour in her small hometown of Pratt, Kansas but when she went Wichita to visit her brother at Christmas and met a man, she decided to stay. She got a job at Boeing. Because she was so tiny, she could crawl into the fuselage and buck rivets. She worked along side a black woman and attributes this to her becoming more accepting.
